Hello everybody!
With just 7 days to kick-off I thought i'd discuss an important yet sometimes glossed over topic, what are we all playing for? I'm a big believer in individual achievement awards. I'm also a fan of rewarding players and competitors with awards that recognise their intangible contributions to the games they play. I believe that, by providing players with more things to strive for than to just win a championship, a noble goal on its own we can foster an environment where we can recognise players who demonstrate commensurate skill in all facets of the game, even when they don't achieve the highest honour, winning the M.B.B.A. Premier League Trophy. The awards have been catagorised into Post-Season awards and Regular Season awards.
Post Season Awards
M.B.B.A. Premier League Champion - The winner is crowned Premier League Champion for that year and had their name engraved on the Premier League trophy.
M.B.B.A. Premier League Champion - Incumbent; Andy Smith, Amazon, 2022.
Regular Season Awards
We recognised and awarded players throughout the regular season on the way to finalising the top 4, who would duke it out in a double elimination finals series to decide the Premier League Champion. We awarded the player who finished top of the regular season. This player is recognised as that years best coach and is dubbed that years Minor Premier.
M.B.B.A. Premier League Minor Premier - Andy Smith, Amazon, 2022.
We also awarded players who topped the stat columns. These players and their teams excelled at certain facets of the game that are seperate from actually winning games of Blood Bowl:
Most Touchdowns Scored - Jo Mills; Necromantic Horror, 2022.
Fewest Touchdowns Conceded - Andy Smith, Amazon, 2022.
Most Casualties Inflicted - Jamie McFayden, Necromantic Horror, 2022.
Most Fouls committed - Andy Smith, Amazon, 2022.
Most Completions made - Tim Sokol, Human, 2022.
Onwards and Upwards!
We're excited to announce that in 2023, most of these awards will be returning, and we're even adding a couple of new ones. The M.B.B.A. Spirit Award and the M.B.B.A. Impact Player Award. These two awards are unique to the M.B.B.A. as they're not empirical stat driven awards. They reward players on being masters of 'The Eye Test', an intangible skillset. 'The Eye Test' is what people use when they're describing a player with 'It'. That intangible X factor that sets players apart. You can find all of these awards, their offerings and criteria in the table below.
